Meet the team:
Rachel Shabi
Rachel Shabi is a regular commentator across broadcast media, including BBC News, Sky News, CNN and Al Jazeera English and also has experience working with academics and researchers on communicating their expertise to a wide audience.
She has a particular focus on working with women and people across class and minority ethnic backgrounds, teaching techniques and skills to build confidence and media presence. Rachel says:
“Academics are expected to be able to communicate academic research to a wider audience while enhancing engagement and presence, while sometimes dealing with hostile media or curveball questions. This session will provide techniques and broadcast skills for the next time you face a rolling camera.”
What people say about our ‘Broadcast and media training’ workshop:
Joe Derrett - Media manager, LSBU
"Rachel was fantastic and the session really helped the academics sharpen their media interview skills and build links with colleagues around the uni. We are looking forward to following-up with them all, individually setting up media interviews".
